Sidebar is located right on Bromfield St in Downtown Crossing, nestled between the historical Granary Burying Ground and new Milennium Tower. They’re a bar with a pretty typical menu – they know what their lane is ($7 bud light pitchers with a simple menu) and they stay in it. I have never had to wait for a table at lunchtime, but it does get busier after work. There’s a good mix of professionals and dive bar characters. This is where you come to hang out with friends and watch a game. I’ve had a couple of different food items such as wings, nachos, and potato skins, but their pizza is the star of the show.
With most of the menu, the food is decent, but nothing you would probably go out of your way for. HOWEVER, the pizza is actually really really good and I go to Sidebar pretty often just because of it. There’s one size, and it’s perfect for sharing between two people. You won’t be stuffed full, but it’s enough to definitely satisfy each person. We’ve tried a variety of toppings and the pepperoni has been the best so far. The crust is fluffy with the perfect amount of cornmeal on the bottom, the sauce is sweet, and the cheese is also good. The crust/cheese/sauce ratio is perfect – no floppy sad pizza here. The pepperonis crisp up just a little bit. One pizza and the aforementioned pitcher of Bud Light will run you just under $20… best bang for your buck in Downtown Boston.
