I’ve only had Screamin’ Sicilian frozen pizza once before, a few years ago, and it was what cheesy fat kid dreams are made of. But because that one Screamin’ Sicilian pizza was SO indulgent, since then I’ve been limiting myself to gazing at it from afar in the frozen pizza aisle.
During my last trip to the grocery store, everything changed… a smaller, personal sized Screamin’ Sicilian Holy Pepperoni pizza box was winking at me. “I’m single,” it said. And, it was on sale.
The Screamin’ Sicilian I’m Single crust is very bready, and crumby when you chew it. It’s not what I was expecting, but I dig it. The “Holy” pepperoni are really, really good. They’re slightly thick cut and get just a bit crispy when baking in the oven… to make a weird comparison, the pepperoni are satisfying in the same way that a perfectly grilled beef hot dog is.
The mozzarella didn’t cook evenly, with the edges towards the crust browning, and leaning towards under cooked in the middle of the middle of the pizza. The sauce was kind of bland in my opinion, but neither of these missed marks were terribly offensive… there’s just some room for improvement.
I think what Screamin’ Sicilian is trying to achieve with their I’m Single Holy Pepperoni pizza is an elevated take on frozen Sicilian pizza, and they do a pretty good job of it. Give it a shot and see if you like it, especially if you’re a fan of Elio’s or the personal sized Digiorno pizzas!
