Growing up in Connecticut, I’ve been spoiled by my access to Pepe’s pizza. I think if you asked people what the best pizza in Boston is, they’d point to Santarpio’s or Regina’s. Surprisingly, it took me 3 years of living in Boston before I tried Santarpio’s (probably because East Boston is super out of the way from basically everywhere.) This review was based on the time I sat down & ate there (cash only btw.)
The pizza, as expected, was very good. The sauce was kind of chunky, but not in the obnoxious way where you feel like you’re just eating chopped up tomatoes. The sauce was laid on a little thick in some spots, which I didn’t love. The cheese was plentiful- tasty and stringy. Prob just regular mozzarella. The pepperoni were spread out, but on the bright side, when you got a bite you were getting a stack of slices. They were under the cheese. The crust was awesome, crispy but also buttery and flaky at the same time. I did get it again another time, but take-out, and it was kinda soggy sooo might be a little hit and miss. Strong showing overall.
