Last night I visited City Tap House in Fort Point for their Grand Opening party. They specialize in upscale pub food as well as having basically a million beers on tap (#brand.) City Tap House also has locations in Philly, DC, and Florida, but this is their first foray into Boston and they couldn’t have picked a better spot.
Some of the first things I tried at City Tap House were the Korean Short Rib Tacos, and Corn+Crab Hush Puppies. I liked the hush puppies better, but I think that’s because I’m just not a fan of pickled cabbage. Not pictured: celebratory glass of champagne.
These little babies were the crowd favorite… Pimento cheese and maple bacon on biscuits. I saw these and I swear my eyes lit up like a kid in a candy store. Some other hits were the burgers with smoked cheddar, pickled red onions, and a secret sauce, as well as the shrimp and grits. One I’ll pass on in the future: steak tartare. Just not my thing, which is weird because I like carpaccio!
As far as the drinks go, my foodie friends loved The Wolf and the Mule. I got the Whitehead Tart, which was tart, sweet, and very pink. It definitely made me feel a tiny bit like I was on a warm vacation and not in the middle of another Boston winter.
City Tap House’s menu has an entire section devoted to pizza, but unfortunately I wasn’t able to try it last night. My guess is that the pizza is so good, it would have taken the spotlight away from the other food… It happens. I can’t wait to try the prosciutto and fig pizza, the salumi pizza, and of course, the margherita. While I’m at it, the honey and goat cheese pizza sounds great too. Guess I’ll be making more than a few trips back!
