This week’s featured cooking attempt is a recipe from Chrissy Teigen’s Cravings cookbook that I’ve been wanting to try for a while – steak bites with blue cheese butter! You can find the recipe here, and read on for my actual experience making these. I’ll give you one spoiler: they tasted as good as this week’s episode of The Bachelor was crazy.
As is tradition, I winged it a little bit and didn’t follow the directions explicitly. Chrissy tells you to get a NY Strip steak that can be cut into 1 inch cubes. I already had sirloin steak tips in my freezer so I decided to just use those. Upon defrosting them, they ended up being a lot flatter than I expected, but hey, steak is steak. I eyeballed the amount of Daniblu blue cheese, and used 2 tablespoons of butter instead of 1. Also, I used vegetable oil in my skillet instead of canola. Other than that, I followed the directions as given.
This was actually a pretty easy recipe to whip up. The hardest part was crushing the pepper for making the steak crust. Second hardest part was assembling the steak bites onto kabobs – having an extra set of hands definitely helped with this part. Once the steak bites were set on the kabob sticks and we put on the blue cheese butter and potato chip sticks, they were ready to eat! My steak bites didn’t come out as photogenic as Chrissy’s, but I bet they were as tasty as hers and that’s what really matters.
Steak bite in one hand, a glass of red wine in the other, I was ready to enjoy the mess that is The Bachelor.
